The Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society was established in June of 1986 at Levittown F.D. Headquarters. The first official meeting of the Society was held on September 30, 1986 at North Massapequa F.D. Headquarters. In attendance were 64 delegates from 37 fire departments, as well as 77 members.
At that meeting, the following members were recognized as the first Executive Board:

On June 10th of 1987 the Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society was granted a Certificate of Incorporation by the State of New York. By July of the same year, the society had grown to 2046 paid dues members, and 68 delegates and alternates from 68 of the 71 departments of the Nassau County Fire Service. The following St. Patrick’s Day, 1988, the Society marched for the first time up New York City’s Fifth Avenue .
We believe we are the largest Volunteer Fire Department Emerald Society in the United States. We are proud to have so many members from the 71 Departments of the Nassau County Volunteer Fire Service as part of our organization.
Our goal is to promote our IRISH HERITAGE among all of our Irish Firefighters, promote BROTHERHOOD among all Firefighters, and to help any and all in need.
